Peter Alteri Jr. Municipal Garage

Peter Alteri Jr.

Serving the Town of Cortlandville since August 3, 1987 as a Water Treatment Operator, and as Deputy Water & Sewer Superintendent from 1989 until 1996 at which time he was appointed Water & Sewer Superintendent, a position he held until his retirement on September 10, 2021, Peter Alteri Jr. has dedicated over 34 years to the Town and to the community as a whole.

From 1987 to 2021 Peter was at the forefront of approximately 18 water and sewer projects for the Town, helping to bring water and sewer service to residential and commercial areas, and rehabilitating old infrastructure. He was instrumental in facilitating the purchase of needed equipment to further his vision of providing exceptional service to the community. He implemented a GIS system to map the Town’ s water and sewer infrastructure, helped procure much needed software upgrades, and led the way in the purchase and installation of new radio read water meters throughout the Town, which help detect potential problems in real time.

As the Town continued to grow, Peter quickly realized the need for a new garage to house all of the equipment. This new Municipal Garage was completed in 2001.

During his distinguished service, Peter has always acted in the Town’s best interest, and most often selflessly, giving up more time than compensated for, and sharing his many talents and vast knowledge whenever called upon. Peter has earned respect in the community and among his peers, not only in the Town of Cortlandville, but from the many neighboring municipalities he has lent a helping hand to.

It is appropriate and fitting that this Board publicly acknowledge Peter Alteri Jr. for his distinguished and dedicated service as Water & Sewer Superintendent for the Town of Cortlandville, now therefore

The Town Board does hereby declare that from this day forward, the Cortlandville Municipal Garage, located at 3587 Terrace Road, Cortland, New York, shall be renamed the “ Peter Alteri Jr. Municipal Garage” and that appropriate signage shall be placed to prominently indicate this change.
