- During the civil war, the army rented the fairgrounds and established "Camp Campbell", the training ground for the 76th volunteers, who were active in many major Civil War campaigns.

- The Cortland County Airport, named Chase Field after war hero Major General Levi Chase, was purchased in 1962 for $35,000. The airport was formally dedicated in 1968
