Marriage License

The couple must apply together, in person, to any town or city clerk in the state for a marriage license.  You do not have to apply where you reside or wish to get married.  Each applicant must furnish proof of identification. 

The following documents are acceptable:

  • Driver’s License
  • Non-Driver’s I.D.
  • Passport
  • Military I.D.
  • Employers Photo I.D.
  • Naturalization Papers

Additionally, the individuals must show proof of birth name via:

  • Birth certificate or baptismal record
  • USA Resident Alien card
  • Work permit
  • Naturalization papers

*Please note that if either applicant has been married prior, proof of divorce, annulment, or death (court documents, death certificate, etc.) must be presented at time of application.

If both parties are eighteen (18) years of age or older, parental or judicial consent is not required.  All documents regarding previous marriages must be presented to the Clerk for verification.  The license is issued immediately, but the marriage cannot occur until twenty-four hours from time of issuance.  The license is valid for sixty (60) days.  The fee for the license is forty dollars ($40.00).
