The Town of Cortlandville is Cortland County’s third largest municipality with respect to land area (approximately 50 square miles). The Town is located in the western section of Cortland County, 35 miles south of Syracuse and 45 miles north of Binghamton. With a population of 8,509 Cortlandville is the County’s second largest political subdivision, second only to the City of Cortland.
The Tioughnioga River flows southward through the Town. The west town line is the border with Tompkins County. Interstate 81, US Route 11, New York State Route 281 are north–south highways. New York State Route 41 and New York State 222 are east-west highways. These extensive transportation arteries efficiently service local industries, commercial activities and residents.
Cortlandville, over the years has been the home of Smith Corona Typewriter, Monarch Machine Tool and a Division of Borg Warner corporation. We currently have a shovel ready industrial park, Finger Lakes East that will be the home of Byrne Dairy’s Yogurt production facility complete with a tourist center. Pall Corporation, an international fluid clarification company has been in Cortlandville since 1961 with manufacturing and research and development facilities. Our newest manufacturing company, Pyrotek Corporation produces refractory type products. Industry is well served in Cortlandville because of its close proximity to Cornell University, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, SUNY Cortland and Tompkins Cortland Community College.
The development of commercial businesses in Cortlandville is done in close collaboration with the five member Planning Board. Over the last ten years over three hundred thousand square feet of commercial business has been become reality serving people in the Town and those in adjoining areas. The Cortlandville area abounds in seasonal festivals celebrating the local crops. The Finger Lakes provide fun and entertainment for all interests.
With the nationwide and local growth in an aging population we have developed a medical infrastucture complete with extensive state of the art dentists, oral surgeons and doctors with wide professional disciplines. We also boast a Dialysis services center developed by a collaborative effort between Cortland Regional Medical Center and Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
